![]() ![]() ![]() (I told you, I was obsessed.)Īs it turns out combining the 1947 Mercury horn button with the 1936 Ford horn button/light switch was quite simple, all completed with simple tools. Throw in a little mythology with the winged cap and feet that make Mercury the fleet-footed messenger of the gods-and he was known for speed-hot rods and speed, it all ties together. Our flattie-powered tub is going to be very traditional and while several of the Ford horn buttons were attractive, we felt an enterprising hot rodder in the '50s would have been drawn to something different, like the Mercury piece. We chose this item because we felt it added some hot rod flavor. In the end we ordered a 1947 Mercury horn button and retaining ring from Dennis Carpenter. We spent time flipping through the Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts catalog and website. And so we fed our horn button fever by perusing the Internet, checking out options from repro-Caddy horn buttons (complete with cool gold crown) to F-1 truck pieces. It was just too stock looking for a traditional hot rod. We also decided that while a gennie Banjo wheel is cool, the thin rim, funky Bakelite horn button and shiny finish had to go. ![]()
